How the cheap Indian art of Baro Market pops up efforts to make art accessible and inexpensive

For Srila Chatterjee, the founder and curator of the Baro Market, an online store that works for artists, craftsmen and designers, affects and talks to all the aspect of art life. Therefore, Srila’s art approach is Democratic. “This auction and sacred galleries are not consistently the scope of some people. Art should be accessible to everyone, ”she says.

This is the inspiration behind his affordable Indian art pop up who travels to Indian cities showing the functions of local artists and artisans across the country. The pop up will be in Kochi from 7 February to 9 February and Srila is excited to bring it to a city that is a big risk for art compared to most other cities in India, thanks to Kochi Muziris Bienle. “It is always interesting to go to a new city, people’s reactions for art functions are different, the purchase patterns are different. And Kerala is particularly interested because people benefit from space; She has large housing and has an interest to beautify them, ”she says.

Prior to the Kovid -19, Baro Market in Mumbai was a physical store, from restored furniture to art, crafts, goods and more. After migrating to an online location since 2020, it has taken cheap Indian art pop up in many Indian cities. “India has a centuries -old art and craft tradition and most people engaged in art and craft are preserving these traditions. We have a place where these artists and craftsmen can find their buyers, ”Srila says.

Adding to the list of things of things – artifacts, crafts, products for home, fashion, gifting – Online, Srila says that his experience with Baro Market has also been about meeting people and making connections. “This is the whole idea. To start interacting around art. There is a story in every art work and we are always excited to share it. Now we have people who contact us with their works and make me happy that we can offer a place to demonstrate such talent, ”Srila says.

Srila, who has been halling a production house for the last 25 years, has dubbed advertising, designing and fashion industries. He cured the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in Mumbai in his early years and co-established a prestigious music place in Mumbai. He recently opened a gallery 47A for design at Heritage village in Kotachivadi in Girgaon, Mumbai, which hosts the show through the year.

The cheap Indian art show in Kochi will have a spectrum of modern contemporary art for traditional vintage pieces (₹ 2,000). The artists whose works will be done include Kochi -based contemporary visual artist Oso, Oriya Pattar Artist Gitanjali Das and Sohrai artist Manikchand Maho. Sohrai is an ancient tribal art form from Jharkhand that uses natural pigments from biological materials.

The cheap Indian art pop up will be held from 7 to 9 February at David Hall, Fort Kochi.
