The Story of Sunrise at Harvest Time

Sunrise on the Reaping will re-enter the world of Panem, 24 years before the events of the Hunger Games trilogy and 40 years after the events of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The story will begin on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, the Second Quarter Quell. Haymitch Abernathy, portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the films, will be central to the story. Lionsgate chairman Adam Fogelson said in a statement, “Suzanne Collins is a consummate storyteller and our creative North Star. We couldn’t be more fortunate to be guided and trusted by a collaborator whose talent and imagination are consistently brilliant. The Second Quarter Quell is legendary and has a huge impact on the history of the Games, even in Katniss Everdeen’s time a quarter-century later.”

Film franchises

The Hunger Games film franchise has grossed over $3.3 billion at the worldwide box office, with Catching Fire being the highest-grossing film at $865 million. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, while not as successful as the original saga, managed to turn a profit given its budget. That film focused on a young Coriolanus Snow, who later became the tyrannical leader of Panem.
