Abhishek Bachchan is in his ‘actor’ phase. With I Want To Talk, he comes up with yet another stellar performance, making us believe that he is truly one of the most underrated actors of this generation. The trailer of the film directed by Shoojit Sarkar was highly praised for its uniqueness. But is this movie even worth watching? Read on to know…
While we see Arjuna’s determination to stay hopeful and fight death at any opportunity, his relationship with daughter Rhea is also an important part of the story. I see their expression as two halves of a film. The first half feels disjointed at times, we are still trying to understand what is happening due to the slow pace, and so is Arjun and Riya’s relationship.

However, the moment Arjun realizes finding ways to deal with his condition, even if it means putting his body through countless surgeries, his relationship with Rhea also deepens. However, this does not come until a much-needed emotional breakthrough occurs between the two. Honestly, this is one of the most powerful scenes in the film, one that leaves a lasting impression.

Abhishek Bachchan has given the best performance of his career in I Want To Talk. We see the character’s ambivalence, pain, anger and determination to show the need to overcome life’s difficult times. While he perfectly conveys the required emotions in every scene, the physicality of his character, which changes with every surgery or jump, is also commendable. Ahilya Bamru as Rhea brings much-needed calmness to the story, while also stirring up emotions when things seem a little bleak. Apart from Abhishek’s excellent acting, the actress has also done excellent acting. Pearl Day plays young Rhea, and despite being silent, she effectively conveys her character’s confusion at being treated so differently by her father.
I Want To Talk is a simple story that is definitely about hope, but sometimes you wait for that big moment that makes you move your heart. Johnny Lever’s character is used as comic relief to keep the story from becoming depressing, but the jokes don’t land.
Final thoughts
All in all, Shoojit Sarkar has once again managed to touch the emotions with a story of hope and resilience, introducing yet another character who is determined to challenge his destiny. Will Arjun avoid dancing at his daughter’s wedding? It’s a question that lingers in our minds to no end. The honest story and its remarkable execution, the constant calmness on screen amidst the chaos in our hero’s life, the breezy music that soothes our minds, and the solid acting, all make for a great film.
