IFFI 2024: Ranbir Kapoor to depict violence in his blockbuster Animal: "It is our responsibility to bring films..."

Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, which was severely criticized by a large section of the audience for its portrayal of violence and toxic masculinity, once again became the talk of the town as the lead actor made his debut at the ongoing 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) here. Addressed the issue. Goa. When Ranbir Kapoor was asked about responsible storytelling, he said, “I completely agree with your opinion. As actors, it is our responsibility to bring films that have a positive impact on society.” Also, Ranbir stressed the importance of experimenting with different styles and exercising creative freedom. “As an actor, it’s important for me to try my hand at different genres and characters and play different roles,” the actor said.

Celebrities like Javed Akhtar, Konkona Sen Sharma also expressed their views on the film and they did not like the content of the film. However, filmmakers like Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap appreciated the film-making style without paying much attention to the moral fabric of the film. At the Forbes India Leadership Awards 2024, Karan Johar said, “I didn’t go deeply into the moral communication of the film – I was very impressed by the narrative and the way the filmmaker told its story through the sound design, screenplay, dialogue, Character development, as a filmmaker I love that.”

Anurag Kashyap, who had earlier shared an appreciation post for Sandeep Reddy Vanga on his social media, defended his choice for the film on daughter Alia Kashyap’s podcast show Young, Dumb & Anxious. He said on the show, “This guy (Sandeep Reddy Vanga), what you see is him. People may like Animal, they may not like Animal, but the way Animal movies are made. There is a major tectonic shift. People will feel its impact 5-10 years from now.”

Despite receiving criticism, Animal did well at the box office. Animal also won five Filmfare Awards this year, including Ranbir Kapoor’s trophy in the Best Actor (Popular) category.
