Jerangam Fringe Theater Festival in Bangalore this week

It was in 2012 that Jerangam, a theater-focused platform, was launched by the late Deepak Gera (an engineer-turn-theater Efficiency), which had a simple dream to celebrate art and culture.

This dream has grown, says Mann Gera, the festival director of the Jerangam Theater Festival (in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India), through which the team has taken art for Assam, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Maharashtra, Bangalore and Rajasthan.

“Over the years, we have been lucky for some incredible artists, in which Makarand Deshpande, Arvind Gaur, Atul Satya Kaushik, Rakesh Bedi, Atul Kumar, Manav Kaul, Kalki Kochin, Purva Naresh, Saurabh Sachdeva, Kumud Mishra, Self, Self, Spirit and Soul.”

Next week, the 13th edition of this touring festival, named Jengam Frinzes, comes to Bengaluru with two plays (Kankad Moti and Kinwad And Love letter, Ninna Pretiya Nanu) And workshops.

In addition to two presentations, the festival will also have a masterclass with theater personality Prasanna Heggodu, and will have a workshop with film and theater actors Ipashita Chakraborty and Ajit Singh Palawat from Mumbai.

Addressing the vibrant theater scene of the city, Mann says that hosting the festival in Bengaluru was always part of the plan. “We have a community of curator who are constantly looking at plays, participating in readings, and sharing recommendations with our core team. For years, we have created a bank of more than 1,000 presentations from across the country. From there, we carefully cure what to bring in each field, always keep in mind what the local audience will join.”

For the development of Jerangam Friends, Mann says it began as a theater festival, over time, “We have developed in a place that embraces many forms of storytelling, whether it is music, films, exhibitions, and readings readings.
