Karnataka Chitrakala Parishad, as part of the celebrations of the 150th birth anniversary of renowned artist Nicholas Roerich, is organizing an exhibition titled. Vaspominnaya Roerich @ 150.
Roerich was an artist whose life and art bridged Russian and Indian cultural traditions. The word ‘vspominnaya’ is Russian to remember. It captures the essence of this tribute and offers a reflection on Roerich’s legacy and artistic journey.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti in November in the presence of Consul General of the Russian Federation Valerikhodzev in Chennai and SN Agarwal, Chairman of the Bhuruka Group and Vice Chairman of the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishad Trust. 8. The exhibition is open till 18 November.
Chitrakala Parishad has India’s largest collection of works of Nicholas Roerich – Himalaya Study SeriesThis collection of 36 paintings was donated by his son Svetoslav.
Roerich owned a large plantation called Tataguni on Kanakapura Road on the outskirts of Bengaluru, where he lived with his wife and film actor Devika Rani until his death.

His interests were archaeology, philosophy, literature and visual arts. ‘Creating over 7,000 paintings and 29 books, Roerich’s work reflects a deep engagement with spiritual and philosophical ideas.’
His extensive travels in Central Asia and the Himalayas ended with his settlement in India where his artistic output reached new heights. Deeply inspired by Eastern mysticism, Roerich’s works are marked by a distinctive symbolism and mastery of landscape, especially his famous use of luminous blue to evoke mysterious, otherworldly spaces.
The Government of India has identified them NavratnaOne of the nine great artists of India whose works are preserved as national treasures.
