Katy Perry is ‘desperate’ to return to American Idol
Perry may have ruled the charts before but her new music proved that she had forgotten to evolve with the times as she dominated the music industry for the last time. With her new album, she failed to compete with fellow pop singers including Taylor Swift. “American Idol was a safe, stable program for Katy,” a source told Life & Style. However, the show has Carrie Underwood replacing the Roar singer on the judging panel.
“Now that her album has flopped, she’s struggling to regain her place at the judges’ table,” the insider said. This is a clear sign that even she knows that her days as a chart-topping artist are behind her. But Carrie’s got the job now – and unless the new season is a disaster in the ratings, there’s no way Katy’s getting back in that chair,” as reported by the Daily Express US.
Woman’s World dropped from 143 to number 63 on the Billboard Hot 100, a significant drop for the artist, who has achieved more diamond singles than anyone except Rihanna – each of which sold over 10 million units. Has happened, with a total of six.

Katy Perry remains in the shadow of her rivals
Another insider told the media outlet that the singer has lost her originality and is working in the shadow of her competitors. The source explained, “Her entire radio pop genre exists in the shadow of Taylor Swift at the moment and Katy was foolish to think she could be the exception to that rule. So, it’s back to the drawing board and hopefully this time she’ll take less of Orlando’s advice and not more.
The insider suggested, “Katy’s strongest work – like her mega-hit ‘Roar’ – was popular because of the songwriting, not because of the videos and certainly not because of her skimpy outfits. When she has the right collaboration with a lyricist, she is still capable of creating hit music. He also noted that “she doesn’t have any extremely loyal songwriting collaborators like Billie Eilish has with her brother Finneas and Taylor has with Jack Antonoff.”
The source further said that they should stick to a “constructive partnership” as a single. He added, “Katy likes to work with many different people rather than just one or two writers or producers, but Billie and Finneas have shown how a creative partnership can grow and deepen over multiple album cycles. And can continue to deliver hits. Katy needs to find a writing partner she likes and then really invest in that relationship.’
His previous albums, Witness (2017) and Smile (2020) were also declared failures and fans have lost hope of his comeback.
