After a video emerged of her aggression towards a security guard during the premiere of Marcello Maio, the singer clarified the situation in an interview with The Associated Press, in which she discussed the incident, which took place at the amfAR Cannes Gala in France on Thursday, May 23.

“The woman knows what happened. I know what happened. I have boundaries, and I stick to those boundaries, and that’s it,” Rowland said.

“And there were other women on that carpet who didn’t look exactly like me, and they weren’t scolded or pushed or told to get off,” she told the AP.

“I stuck to my point, and he felt he should stick to his point too, but I stuck to my point.”

The incident took place on the steps of the Palais des Festivals, where a heated exchange took place between Rowland and a security guard. Although several people accompanying the Destiny’s Child alumnus tried to intervene, the guard remained firm in escorting them to the carpet.

Roland and Mea Culpa

Earlier this year, Rowland took on a different role — starring in Tyler Perry’s Mea Culpa. The erotic legal thriller, released on Netflix in February, presented a unique challenge for the singer-actress.

Recalling her initial nervousness when reading the script, Rowland explained, “I remember thinking it was everything I needed to be in an erotic thriller, and it terrified me.”

“And then a friend of mine called me and said, ‘Kel, if it’s not scaring you, what’s the purpose of doing it?’

She added, “And so I really ran with it. I understood everything. Tyler was so amazing and so important in the whole process and [my costar] Trevante [Rhodes] It was a real pleasure working with him. I am very lucky.”
