In September, Lil Wayne said that his Super Bowl insult “hurt a lot.”

Kendrick Lamar’s new album is here! The 37-year-old rapper surprised his fans with the 12-track GNX on Friday. In his first full-length album since 2022, the Not Like Us hitmaker addressed Lil Wayne’s disappointment at not being selected for the Super Bowl half-time show next year.

The Like That rapper released his latest album without any prior announcement or promotion, which took his fans by surprise. In the intro song titled Wacked Out Murals, Lamar calls out Wayne (born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.) for being sad after losing a Super Bowl performance. Lamar raps in the song, “Used to beat ‘Tha Carter III’, I proud of my rolly chain/Ironic, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down.”

In another verse, Lamar raps, “Win the Super Bowl and Nas is the one who congratulated me/ All these (expletives) were excited/ I’m glad it’s in their face/ Quite frankly, there’s a lot of artists but They’re old/The old (expletive) flow is trying to make me believe you’re their favorite.”

Earlier this year, the NFL’s decision to tap the Money Trees rapper as the halftime show performer for Super Bowl 59 sparked a debate online. Netizens argued that Wayne should have been chosen because the championships are scheduled to be held in New Orleans, where the Lollipop hitmaker was born and raised. Shortly after the announcement, the 42-year-old said he was “deeply saddened” by the insult.

In a video message shared on Instagram in September, Wayne addressed his Super Bowl humiliation, saying, “I had to get enough strength to do this without breaking down. I say thank you for every voice, every opinion, all the care, all the love and support there. When I tried to fall back, your words turned into arms that held me.”
