Within a year, a fresh deadlock in the Kolkata film industry has exploded in the film production within a year. This is the second such conflict within the last six months as the Cold War Industry and its work continue to shake between directors and technicians.
When Srijit Roy, director of Soap Opera, heard rumors in the industry from 1 February, they grew that they would stop making their serial set inside the film studio. Mr. Roy said, “The rumor was that I have commented in 2024 that hurt some technicians, but there is no evidence at that end. I mail the technicians to the Federation to ask about the reason, but found no response. Work on other films and serial sets has also been stopped. ,
The director claimed that he had developed a great synergy with all technicians in the industry in his 25 -year long career and the struggle on his set was due to “external influences”.
In a live video on social media site Facebook on 4 February, Mr. Roy described his ordinance. He said, “Me and my partner Sauvik have borrowed money to create this serial after a lot of conflicts. We do not come from rich families. I will tolerate the loss I am suffering every day? ,
The aggrieved director also urged his colleagues to gather in Dasani 1 Film Studio to show solidarity with their reason. He urged technicians to meet them personally and start negotiations about their “alleged” defects. He also urged that if there is evidence, he will accept his mistakes.
As the days progressed, many directors and actors gathered around the studio to show their support. Sudeshna Roy, Secretary, Director Association of Eastern India, showed support and reached the spot.
Director Subrata Sen, who is also part of the Director Association and stayed in solidarity with Mr. Roy Hindu“The number of films made in 2023 was 134, but it increased to 39 in 2024. If these problems continue, in a few years, the number will be zero.”
The film shows a 70% decline in production which has negatively affected every person associated with the industry. He insisted that no one is looking at the big picture and is ready to work together to help the industry bounce back from its recession.
Actor and director Parambrata Chatterjee said, “Even if Sreejit has done something. Is he not worthy of the federation of technicians to tell him what his mistake is. But they are silent. The technicians working on the set are also losing salary, so they are directors. He said that they are ready to discuss and are ready to reach a solution if the federation of technicians comes to the table.
Repeated deadlock
Last July all were shot in the industry, resulting in a war of words between stakeholders. Which ended after the Chief Minister’s intervention.
The high-extending of the technician’s federation has been repeatedly questioned by directors, producers and actors.
The Directors Association also filed a case against the Union of Cine Technicians and Eastern India workers in the Competition Commission of India in Delhi, which gives voice to its concerns about the ARM-twisting culture officially promoted by the Federation.
