I would not say that this is 100% an experimental film; It is a mainstream commercial film. It is just that it is not a specific mass masala film with a grand action spectacle towards typical hero introduction shots, punch dialogues and internal.

What Ajit sir has done is something unimaginable. He has done something that will question his own image. Very few A-listers dare to do so, and he is carrying forward the envelope. He has challenged the image of his stardom and his big life on every given occasion. I believe that the answer lies in his honor for the audience. How long are we going to feed the audience to feed the things that are far from reality? Did he say that he would see only a hero who sends 20-30 people flying in the air? Did he say that he will only watch films that cause misunderstandings? Absolutely not. They expect good, logical and sensible films. In your previous films, you tried to rationalize the opponent with a flashback or a dialogue like ‘Thadaira Thaka’, ‘Meghman’ and ‘Kalga Thalivan’, how they became these bad animals. Does the criteria of commercial film production, that a hero cannot be an anti -hero and a villain has to ban you, you have to ban?

This cannot be avoided, as films are for public consumption. Certainly, there has been a development in the spectators’ profile across India. But we all have the responsibility to make sure that the investment of producers is safe. So there are moments when you have to play in the gallery. I am trying to push the envelope slowly, to bring my films closer to the reality.

I am doing style films, most of which are under thriller style. The thriller is a template for style and I have not yet reached a situation where I can break that template even more. I am now in a place where I have to draw the attention of the audience for the entire film. So although I want to work within a template, I try to make the characters real. This is why I entertain that a character is a certain way, what their impulse and what they drive to do what they do. This is the respect I am showing to the audience, I believe.

(Laughing) I like the hero. A hero is not a person who can take 100 people; A hero is the one who stands for the truth, whether it is the cost. These are people who inspire me. I would not call myself an action filmmaker, although it is how I am considered. This is just that whenever a hero or a producer contacts me, they want me to do an action film. I see myself as a filmmaker; I want to do films in all styles. Now, only in film styles that re -define themselves after a certain point, will live in a long time. The action style is not inferior; This is a style that began in a silent film Yuga. In every era, an action filmmaker will enter the action style and define again. When people get tired of seeing the same star-powered action extravagans, a filmmaker arises to do something innovative in that format. Therefore, the style will always survive.

You said that your next is a commercial action. It is said that there is a large-star project outside your area, where you may have to work within restrictions; Then there is a film with a small star, which is ready to go into your area. Which of these will you like?

(Laughing) You are asking me to be very honest, but I will take the fodder. I will choose where I can tell the story in my favorite way. This is how I lived. When i was writing Thadaira Thaka, Two big actors wanted me to wait. In the beginning, I also waited for a month, but they were very busy, and I had a script ready; So I started making it. But because I gave my word to another producer and Arun Vijay, I went ahead and did a film with him. I am that kind of filmmaker. At the same time, I want to work with famous stars, and I believe what my next film will be.
