Mahavatar Narasimha premieres at 55th IFFI: A saga of faith, courage and divine power

Marking a milestone in Indian cinema, ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ had its world premiere at the prestigious 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ashwin Kumar, the film offers a spiritually profound and visually stunning experience, depicting the mythological stories of Varaha and Narasimha, the third and fourth incarnations of Lord Vishnu.

Speaking about the film at the 55th IFFI, director Ashwin Kumar shared his inspiration behind the project, saying, “This is not just an animation film; It is a labor of love and a tribute to our rich cultural heritage. Taking inspiration from Vishnu Purana, Narasimha Purana and Srimad Bhagavat Purana, we have remained true to the original sources to present a story that is relevant for all generations. I wanted to preserve these stories not as myths but as part of our collective history and consciousness.

The film focuses on the epic battle between the demon king Hiranyakashipu and his son Prahlad who takes revenge on Lord Vishnu, whose unwavering faith forces the Lord to appear as Narasimha. This timeless tale of the triumph of devotion over tyranny is brought to life with intricate animation and nuanced storytelling.

With a production timeline of four and a half years, ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ exemplifies the potential of Indian animation. Featuring vibrant visuals and phenomenal VFX, this film goes beyond the notion that animation is solely for young audiences.

Ashwin Kumar addressed this perception, saying, “We wanted to challenge this perception and make a film for everyone. Initially no one believed in our vision, but we have proved that Indian VFX and animation can be of world-class quality.

The director also highlighted the broader ambition of the project and explained, “It’s not just a film, it’s a legacy. Art that is rooted in research and depth resonates deeply, and we are committed to maintaining this standard in our future endeavors.

Directed by Ashwin Kumar, the film is produced by Shilpa Dhawan, Kushal Desai and Chaitanya Desai under the banner of Claim Productions and Hombale Films.

With its compelling narrative, meticulous craftsmanship and commitment to authenticity, ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ is an unprecedented contribution to Indian cinema, inspiring audiences to reconnect with timeless stories of faith, courage and divine intervention.
