Mahershala Ali and Tom Hardy to star in Carrey's Joji Fukunaga crime thriller '77 Blackout'

Mahershala Ali and Tom Hardy set to headline upcoming crime thriller 77 blackout, set against the backdrop of the 1977 New York City blackout. Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, the film will be based on the chaos and anarchy that engulfed the city during that fateful night.

Produced by Charles Roven for Atlas Entertainment with Madison Weiter, William Green and Aaron Ginsberg, the film follows five corrupt police officers who hatch a plan to target various criminal gangs amid a blackout.

The script, originally written by Frank John Hughes with revisions by Fukunaga, promises a sobering exploration of morality and survival in the face of adversity. International rights to the film will be offered to the Cannes market by Black Bear.

Ali, known for his Oscar-winning performance Moonlight And green book, will play Ray Butler, while Hardy will play Eddie Boyle. Fukunaga has been praised for his work true Detectiveof netflix crazy and recently for No time to die.
