Manoj Bharathirja, son of Tamil actor and veteran filmmaker Bharatirja, died on Tuesday (March 25) in Chennai at the age of 48. The actor, who had recently undergone bypass surgery, was resumed at his home in Chetpet when he faced cardiac arrest on Tuesday (March 25, 2025).
Born in Bharathirja and Chandralela in 1976, Manoj made her father debut in the 1999 film Taj Mahal. Although the film tank at the box office, the depiction of AR Rahman’s evergreen music and Bharatirja’s songs was enough to create a memorable impression among the Tamil audience.

Actor Sori said that he knew Mr. Manoj as someone who never threw his weight despite his background.
“I worked in the art department when he made his debut with the Taj Mahal. He was a great person. I knew that Manoj had some health issues, but never expected him to pass. No father should look at his son’s death. I want God to give him strength,” he said.
Veteran actor Thiagarajan said it was a major setback for him. “I knew Manoj for my young days. I helped him enter Don Bosco. I have seen him from such a young age. This has affected me a lot. He was very respected for his father. I am unable to process his death.”
