Veteran actress Meenakshi Seshadri in a recent interview spoke about the time when she was ousted from Damini for rejecting director Rajkumar Santoshi’s marriage proposal. ZoomFor your information, Damini is one of the most popular films of Meenakshi’s career. However, Meenakshi was re-cast in the film after the Producers Guild supported her. Recalling those days, Meenakshi said that she did not consider it a “fight”, but she felt it was right to “stand up” for that cause. Speaking to Zoom, Meenakshi Seshadri said, “Santoshi ji and I decided not to talk about it. It is water under the bridge. But the courage to stand up was important because no one should be told that they are no longer needed. It had many implications for the rules of the workforce and beyond. I dealt with it by keeping quiet. I simply said that I would choose not to comment on it because it is against my dignity to turn it into a fight. This is not a fight.”
Meenakshi Seshadri said, “I stood up for what I believed in and if things were going to be okay, we would work together as a team. That was the message I wanted to give to the film fraternity and the audience. I was there to make a great film and Damini was definitely going to be that film.”
Reflecting on the support she received from the Producers Guild, she said, “I respect everyone associated with the film, especially Santoshi ji, because his vision was tremendous. After all, they say work speaks louder than words, so the Producers Guild, the Artists Guild, everyone came together to make it happen.”
