New York: It’s a proud moment for everyone as ace designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee has created history by becoming the first Indian designer to grace the prestigious Met Gala carpet.
On Tuesday, she attended the fashion event wearing an “embroidered cotton duster coat from Sabyasachi Resort 2024 collection adorned with tourmalines, pearls, emeralds and diamonds from Sabyasachi High Jewellery.”
Sabyasachi also posted a video of himself posing for photographers on the Met Gala carpet on his official Instagram account. She posed for some amazing poses on the streets of New York City.
Fans praised him a lot for this great feat. One social media user commented, “The legend is promoting himself as himself.”
Another wrote: “Congratulations…you are a legend.”
Well, this year apart from walking the red carpet, Sabyasachi also designed Alia Bhatt’s outfit for the party. Alia stunned everyone in a timeless mint green Sabyasachi saree adorned with long, dramatic trails.
Alia Bhatt’s custom embroidered saree beautifully encapsulated the theme of this year’s Met Gala – “Sleeping Beauty: Reliving Fashion” with the dress code “The Garden of Time”. The actress was styled by Anaita Shroff.
After attending the red carpet, Alia shared pictures on Instagram flaunting her Met Gala look.
“It was a call to the garden of time – a tribute to art and eternity. Timelessness is endless, and we acknowledge that things crafted with time and care can last forever. This universal theme In our journey to Indian interpretation, nothing embodies tradition and innovation like the saree; in the skillful hands of @sabyasachiofficial, this vision found its perfect expression. Looked to the past for inspiration and the sophistication of Indian nobility,” he wrote.
“We have focused on intricate craftsmanship, including hand embroidery, precious stones as well as elegant beading and fringes, typical of the 1920s fringe style. Our color palette pays homage to the beauty of nature, which Echoes the earth, the sky and the sea. We adopted a delicate nostalgia for the hair and makeup – an elevated hairstyle adorned with intricately woven braids and soft ruffles – a tribute to the gentle caress of time,’ ‘ he adds.
Alia also talked about the emotional and labour-intensive process behind the creation of the saree, saying, “It is completely hand embroidered. It took 1905 man hours and 163 artisans to make this outfit.”
“Making it has been quite an experience… equal parts fun and stressful. It took a collective effort of 163 dedicated individuals including master craftsmen, embroiderers, artists and dyers, investing a total of 1965-man hours This ethereal saree, I feel incredibly grateful for this exquisite creation, which is a testament to the immense love and painstaking effort put in by @anaitashroffadania, @puneetbsaini. Thank you so much to amitthakur_hair, @dolly.jain, and my amazing team for being the most amazing partners through this ‘Garden of Time’,” he added.
This is Alia’s second appearance at the Met Gala. Last year, she made her Met Gala debut in a pearl-embellished gown.
