The Madhya Pradesh government on Tuesday (November 19, 2024) decided to declare the film “The Sabarmati Report”, based on the 2002 Godhra train fire, tax-free in the state.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced this and said that he will also go to watch the film.

Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the film revolves around the 2002 Godhra train burning incident that sparked communal riots in Gujarat.

“‘The Sabarmati Report’ is a very good film. I will go watch the film myself. I have also told my ministers, MLAs and MPs to watch this film. We are also going to make it tax free in the state so that more and more people can watch it. Can see it,” Mr Yadav told reporters.

He said that this (Godhra incident) is a dark chapter of the past and the truth will come out through the film.

Accusing the opposition of playing “dirty politics” over the Godhra incident for vote bank, Mr Yadav said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was then Gujarat Chief Minister, saved the honor of the state and the country.

Earlier on Sunday (November 17, 2024), PM Modi, while referring to the film “The Sabarmati Report”, said that a fake story can last only for a limited time.

PM Modi made the comment on Twitter while reacting to a post by a user praising the film ‘The Sabarmati Report’ for ‘bringing to light the important truth of one of the most shameful incidents in our recent history’.

Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Vishwas Sarang on Tuesday (November 19, 2024) said that the film has revealed the truth of the Godhra incident, in which 59 people were killed.

The BJP leader claimed, the facts shown in the film have proved that the Congress and the opposition had at that time created a story to defame Gujarat in the entire world.

Mr Sarang alleged that Congress has always distorted history to defame the majority community of the country and mislead the society.

“We will watch the film ‘The Sabarmati Report’ with party workers and the public,” he said.
