Tamil star Nayanthara has accused actor-producer Dhanush of ‘retaliating’ against her upcoming Netflix documentary after she sent him a legal notice for the use of some unauthorized clips in the film.

In a strongly worded open letter posted on social media, Nayanthara criticized Dhanush for refusing to allow the use of songs and scenes. Nanum Rowdy PaddyA 2010 romantic comedy starring Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi and produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films. The film was directed by Shivan.
He asked Dhanush whether his decision was taken due to any “personal grudge” and not just commercial and monetary compulsions.
According to Nayanthara, after the premiere of the trailer of the documentary, Dhanush sent a legal notice claiming ₹10 crore for the use of a 3-second clip shot on personal devices from the sets of the 10-year-old film. He described the move as “the lowest point ever” for his former friend Dhanush and raised questions on his ethics and public persona.
“Does a creator become an emperor controlling the life, liberty and freedom of all individuals in the set? Does any deviation from the Emperor’s order attract legal ramifications?” Nayanthara wrote in a 3-page public statement.
She said that although she would respond to Dhanush’s notice through legal means, she wanted to highlight the “moral side” of her struggle, “which should be defended in the court of God.”

Your words before the release have already left some unhealable wounds for us. I came to know from the film industry that your ego was hurt a lot after the film became a blockbuster. Your displeasure over the success of this film (Filmfare 2016) was felt even by the common man through the award ceremonies associated with it.
