Ace sitarist and music maker Rishab Rickhiram Sharma is the youngest disciple of mythological Ravi Shankar. He was the first sitarist to perform at the White House in 2022. But do you know that he initially rejected the proposal?
Rishab Rikhiram Sharma revealed this in NDTV Yuva.
He said, “It was surprising. But quite funny, I did not initially say for the White House. It’s not his fault. I have a deep respect for the White House and the President. But they did not know how to present an Indian repetition. So they were asking me, ‘Can you stand and are entry of guests?” And I ‘No, it’s not how our music should be heard.’
Rishab Rikhiram Sharma said, “I honored that I will not be able to do so. But they were very ready to work. They were like, ‘Tell us how we can work.’ I told them that we need a riser, a carpet and a clean white sheet.
The sitarist shared his experience of performing at the White House.
He said, “On the platform where the President was about to speak, I played right next to the podium. Chankya, Tilak Kamod, Shiva KailashNot all original songs, no Bollywood or cover. Everyone received it with great love. ,
Speaking about him “Guru ji“Ravi Shankar, Rishab Rikhiram Sharma admitted that Sitar Legend was actually a strict teacher. He was very special with notes. But Rishab revealed that the moment Ravi Shankar put the sitar down was the most beloved person on the planet.”
Rishab Rikhiram Sharma said, “He was the most fun. I think I have got my humor Guru jiLike how he does Wordplay. I remember him every day. There is no one like him, and when I lost it, I think we have lost the biggest rockstar of Indian music. ,
Rishab Rikhiram Sharma also confessed that he started playing the role of a sitar for his mental health.
He said, “I wanted to fix myself. I was facing my grandfather’s death. And when we lost him, I was completely broken. I was going through anxiety, depression. I was not myself. The music was something that brought me out of it.”
Last month, Rishab Rikhiram Sharma announced his sitar for Mental Health 10-Mahahar India Tour. It will be closed in Delhi on 6 April, 2025.
