Veteran director Ramesh Sippy said on Sunday that even after 50 years of its release, cinderStill drawing the audience for theaters is a will for its permanent love in generations.
The filmmaker attended a special screening of his 1975 blockbuster, which completed five decades of its release this year, on the occasion of 2025 International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards at Raj Mandir Cinema in Jaipur.
Considered as one of the biggest Hindi films of all time, cinder Showed Sanjeev Kumar, Amjad Khan, Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini and Jaya Bachchan. Written by Salim-Javed, the film was released on August 15, 1975.
“Even after 50 -year -old ‘Sholay’, we are celebrating it, and people are still coming to see it. There is enough evidence that people loved the film, and loved it for what it was. Story, dialogues, feelings, action, adventure, performance, everything …
“I certainly realized that we were going out to make something really good. But, I had never imagined such love, praise and success. But it was definitely aimed at trying to make something that was not made before. I didn’t know how far I would get,” Sippy told reporters in a post-screening press conference.

The director credited his artists and crew to help him feel his vision. cinder“I had a lot of amazing people working with me, from Star Cast to Technicians, every member of employees who not only took care of the technical side, simply took stones and took care of horses … Everyone matters. Otherwise, it is not possible to keep such a difficult film together. It only grows up.
Asked what his greatest learning was as a storyteller, Sippy said that if the story is not correct, a film will never work. “If we forget that we are telling a story, we are going to fail badly … The heart is the heart story. The main characters help tell that story, come together and exchange emotions,” he said.
Director Soraj Barjatya, who was also present in the event, said that the only aspect of film production has changed is a way of telling the story.
“I think it has only changed and nothing, because you take the example of the Raj temple, it has been 50 years. It is still here, and it will remain here. Similarly, today, people remember the head with ‘Sholay’ or I remember the head with ‘Sholay’ or ‘Hum Aapke Hen Qin ..!’ Remember with, why are these films alive? Sippy agreed and said “Sholay” and “Hum Aapke Han Couon ..
“It is a family film with songs, I was an action-adventure film, but also with songs and life. The feeling of friendship, the death of a friend … These are all emotional aspects, so you can’t just call ‘Sholay’ an action film … which we can’t all without feelings and relationships,” he said.
Sippy said that if he was to make a film today, it would be “something new” that provokes him, something similar to that Barjat did with 2023 Height,
Experienced filmmaker, such as also known for the direction of films Sita and Geeta, prideAnd PowerTheaters vs. streammers debate were also weighed.
Sippy, who co-directed the 1980s popular TV Soap Opera Foundation With Jyoti Sarp, for the first time it was said that theaters had to face that kind of challenge.
“Television is no less important today, but has it taken away cinema? It is not. This beautiful cinema that we sit is another side of the story … as far as OTT, this is a new version of television, better quality and a greater payment (AWANU) today due to technology.
“It is more relevant to the youth, but I think the mixture of cinema and television will always be. They will not fight unnecessarily. You watch various types of movies from home, but even today OTT is carrying very strong materials … All of them have to be co -existence there.”
