New Delhi: Cannes is not just a festival of cinema, but the Croisette is the perfect place to put your best outfit forward. It’s also that time of the year when a host of Bollywood beauties step out to the French Riviera. However, this time their number is very less, because the number of influential people has left the film people behind.
So bringing our focus back to fashion, the desi crew gave us many ‘why oh why’ moments. Fashion pundits and fans are unanimous that Shane and Falguni’s gold-inspired ensemble or confetti gown did no justice to the world’s most beautiful woman, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
Although Cannes regular actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan defended her designers, all we can say is, Sundar, please change your stylist.
However, two women led the way in their Cannes debut, actor Kiara Advani and influencer Nancy Tyagi. Kiara represented India at the Red Seas Foundation “Women in Cinema Gala Dinner” organized by Vanity Fair.
On the first day, the actor was seen in a white ivory satin outfit designed by Prabal Gurung. Dressed in a thigh-high slit gown paired with pearl earrings, the actor looked cool and vibrant in the Cannes atmosphere, which exudes glamor and sophistication.
It was vintage Hollywood for the gala night. Kiara opted for a black and pink mermaid-fit corset gown with a bow at the back, black lace gloves paired with a beautiful yellow gold rupee. BVLGARI Serpenti necklace worth Rs 30 crore and a pink gold BVLGARI ring.
“Simple, classy does it. Kiara’s stylist got it right. A designer says on Kiara’s look, “The clothes were complementing her figure, the make-up was light and it looked easy without much effort.” Apart from this, sometimes Bollywood except Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. What goes wrong is that more is less. Usually it is the opposite. We have better handloom and craftsmanship, and can do much better than what we do.”
Another fashion influencer to grab attention was Nancy Tyagi, who walked as part of the Brut India team. In a self-sewn pink voluminous gown with multiple layers and a long train, Nancy looked elegant and stylish. The influencer received applause from actors Sonam Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar for his self-styled creation.
“Nancy was different, and imagine that no one knew who she was and now she remembered it best. “Fashion needs to stand out,” says one designer.
In the words of Coco Chanel, fashion changes but style remains the same. Hopefully some designers and stylists will take notice.
