Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in a special screening of Hindi film Chhawa on Wednesday in Balyoi Auditorium in Parliament. The screening will be attended by cabinet ministers and members of Parliament.
The film, which depicts the life of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has received widespread praise for his depiction of bravery and leadership.
Screening of Chhawa at Parliament Library Building will feature the film’s entire actors and crew, including actor Vicky Kaushal, who portrays the role of Sambhaji Maharaj. The event has created a lot of interest, especially following praise for Prime Minister Modi’s film.
Last month, during a address at the Akhil Bharati Marathi Sahitya Samlan in New Delhi, PM Modi highlighted the importance of the film, recognizing his depiction of Sambhaji Maharaj’s courage in fighting against the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. He also said that the story of the film inspired by Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel has hit a raga with the audience across the country.
“It is Maharashtra and Mumbai that has raised both Marathi and Hindi cinema. These days, the Chhawa is creating a discussion across the country. Thus the portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj’s courage is inspired by Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel,” PM Modi commented on 21 February.
Chhawa has attracted international attention to its powerful story and historical accuracy, highlighting the lesser of Maratha history yet highlighting important aspects.
The film is appreciated not only for its historical reference but also for its attractive tale and performance, especially depiction of the Maratha warrior of Kaushal.
Released on 14 February 2025, Chhawa has been appreciated for its historical accuracy and emotional story. The film keeps performing well at the box office in its sixth week.
