Amazon Studios orders second season of spy series Mr and Mrs SmithA reimagining of the 2005 film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Glover will continue to be credited as co-creator and executive producer on the series along with Francesca Sloane, who will return as showrunner.

Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, said they are excited to announce that a second season of the “groundbreaking detective series” is in the works for global Prime Video subscribers.

“The success of the first season, coupled with its incredibly modern, sexy reimagining of the original film, is a testament to the brilliant creators Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane. We are proud to bring you another season full of unforgettable journeys and new adventures. ” Salke said.

According to the official series description, the first season of Mr and Mrs Smith It is the story of two lonely strangers who get jobs at a mysterious spy agency, which offers them the spy life, money, world travel, and a dream brownstone house in Manhattan, New York.

“The Catch? New identities as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith in an arranged marriage. Now John and Jane are engaged to each other and go on a high-risk mission each week, while also facing a new relationship. Their complicated cover story gets even more complicated when they realize they have real feelings for each other. What’s riskier: espionage?” it reads.

The series, produced by New Regency and Amazon’s MGM Studios, received critical acclaim when it premiered on Prime Video in February.
