PVR Inox fined ₹ 1,00,000: Bangalore Consumer Court fined multiplex for delay in film screening with excessive advertisements

The Bangalore District Commission Prevention Commission has directed PVR Inox to showcase the real -time of the film on the ticket and not when the advertisement starts playing in the hall. A NewsX Report has been stated Sam Bahadur On 26 December, 2023.

As NewsXAbhishek booked three tickets for the show at PVR Inox at 4:05 pm, but the film was played at 4:30 pm after a series of advertisements. Troubled by the discomfort caused by screening, Abhishek complained against the ticket portal, PVR Inox and Bookmyshow.

The Commission ruled that Bookmyshow was not responsible for the issue, even blamed the PVR Inox (merged as PVR) under the audience subject to the film’s long advertisements beyond the scheduled time of the film. President M Sobha and member of the member Anita Shivkumar and Suma Anil Kumar, who led the panel, asked PVR Inox to give importance to their customers’ time.

The ruling said that film tickets should mention the right time of the film. It also directed that the advertisement should not go beyond the scheduled beginning of the film.

The complainant was awarded Rs 20,000 for inconvenience and mental crisis, as well as Rs 8,000 for covering the cost of litigation. The court ordered the multiplex series to pay one lakh rupees for punitive damage and ensured that the actual start time of films has been clearly informed to the audience.

PVR INOX defended its practice citing government rules, requiring screening of public service announcements (PSAs) before films. However, the court said that these guidelines limit such screening to a maximum of 10 minutes.

The complainant recorded advertisements as evidence, motivating PVR Inox to argue that it violated the anti -piracy laws. The court rejected the claim, making it clear that the advertisement, not only the film, was recorded, and it was done to highlight an issue influenced by many filmmakers.
