PVR’s Amer Bijli says that animated films are working at the box office as they are no longer considered ‘kids’ cartoon’.

It has been a great year for animation in India. When it comes to box office collection in the country, animated features have broken the glass roof. International studios and franchises are taking their films into the country in some cases. This bounce has been largely a result of a change as to how audiences see animated storytelling, PVR believes Amer Electricity.

Amer Bijli of PVR spoke about the state of animation in India before the release of Spicy Kasukabe dancers.

In a conversation with Hindustan Times, Amer touches the success of some animated films at the box office, and also how the upcoming Shin Chan film can take it forward.

Why animation is suddenly working in India

Aamer Bijli, Lead Specialist – Digital Programming in Innovation, Film Marketing and PVR Inox, has now been anime fan for years. Therefore, she is in a hurry to praise the success of the box office of Infinity Castle: Infinity Castle. Anime has mint 65 crores in India. The country had a previous record for an ame in the country 9 crores.

Electric says, “I think animation in India, especially with cartoons, for a very long time, which actually helps limit its acceptance, unfortunately, unfortunately. I was a huge fan of Pokémon, Bablade, and Dragon Ball, which I have come to know that I really help a lot. It is just a new and big viewer.”

But this is not just anime that has recently succeeded in India. Legendary epic Mahavat Narasimha earned and crossed all expectations 300 crores, 10 times worldwide as any Indian animated film made before that. Talking about his success, electricity says, “Mahavatar Narima trusted our roots. It embedded mythology with philosophical insight, and it also resonated with a collective identity of a story, which we are already familiar with. All this attracted the audience to cinema.”

Bharat Settings of Shin Chan Film

In this climate, Japanese animated film, Shin Chan: Spicy Kasukabe dancers, are releasing in India. Shin Chan already enjoys a big fan base in India. And at the top of it, the film sees the favorite character journey for India. Is there a sign for the country’s growing popularity as a market for Indian animation? “I have been asked this question a lot,” Says Bijli, “I think it will be an honor if they think to set something consciously in India. It is definitely from the trailer that it is a show especially a show done for India. I think it is also understood that Shin Chan is also one of the most noticed IPS of India.”

You know different markets that I think there are different horses for different courses, there are many films that do very well in America that do not translate in India also and you know that we face it all the time in our distribution business, where we put bets on movies, which you know that we believe that we believe that we believe that hallsis will really show the trick -down effects. But unfortunately it is not that this is not always the case. So I think the consumer base is sometimes so different that it does not always translate directly.

Shin Chan: Spicy Kasukabe dancers are being presented by PVR Inox Pictures with TV Asahi of Japan in India. The film was released in India this Friday, 26 September.
