When Radiohead’s Thom Yorke heard fans were speculating about a band reunion, here’s what he had to say
Thom Yorke of the band Radiohead said in a recent interview with Australia’s Double J. creepAddressed speculation about new Radiohead music in the future. The conversation stemmed from his recent collaboration with guitarist Jonny Greenwood on his project The Smile. “I’m not aware of it and I don’t make a big deal of it,” York said. “No offense to anyone and thanks for caring. But I think we’ve earned the right to do what makes sense to us without having to explain ourselves or be accountable to someone else’s historical idea of what we should do.
The 56-year-old singer further emphasized that he doesn’t really feel pressure to match Radiohead’s decades-long legacy. “I don’t think we feel the need to live up to anything. This seems like a non-problem. We’re in this privileged position where we’re still able to make music because of Radiohead, so no complaints,” he said.

In a surprising turn of events, other fans felt proud of his candid language. “The guy’s about to go out on a brief solo tour and he’s released two albums in a year with Smile and you’re asking about Radiohead? “Yeah, I’d be angry,” one said. “He makes a good case and is completely right. He has earned the right to do what he wants to do. I also get the expectations and pressure that bands must feel for every album. All of Smile’s albums have been excellent and I’m grateful that we’re still getting music from Thoms and Johnny,” echoed another.
While Yorke insisted there were no plans for a reunion, bassist Colin Greenwood told NME that the band had had a brief reunion the previous summer. “We just got together for a few days over the summer and just went through all the songs and picked up where we left off in 2018. It was really fun and nice to see everyone. We were supposed to do it for three or four days but we decided to do it after two days because it was fine and we could still do it. My brother [Jonny Greenwood] He said we just needed a couple of weeks of rehearsals and we could hit the road, no problem.”
As far as the band goes, some time ago Radiohead announced that they would be collaborating on a new stage production – Hamlet hail the thiefThe play will include reworked music from Radiohead’s 2003 LP, hail to the Thief.
