New Delhi: Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh was recently spotted at the high-profile Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant Haldi ceremony. With haldi smeared on his face and clothes, the look instantly reminded one of his famous Khilji avatar from the film Padmaavat. In the reference scene, Ranveer Singh’s character Alauddin Khilji is seen applying Holi colours on his face.

This uncanny resemblance between the real-life moment and the famous film scene brought back fond memories. However, not many would know that the unforgettable moment in Padmaavat was a result of Ranveer Singh’s creative contribution.

Ranveer Singh’s famous Khilji scene

A source close to the project shared an interesting behind the scenes story and said, “The team was thinking about how to present this scene differently and especially with Ranveer as Khilji is an unpredictable and lonely character. Ranveer then came up with a very unique take where he paints his face with gulaal in a tray and maintains a sinister expression as he has no one to play Holi with and yearns for Padmavati. It was an instant idea and maestro Sanjay sir loved the idea and incorporated it in the film. That’s how the scene came to be and became an iconic scene.”

His portrayal of Alauddin Khilji in Padmaavat is one of his most acclaimed performances till date.
