Marvel is leaving no stone unturned to bring back its glory days. They are reportedly paying a hefty amount to Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo Brothers for Avengers.
Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo Brothers may be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Avengers franchise, but they’re making sure they get a hefty paycheck. Diversity It is reported that Joe and Anthony Russo are also co-producing the next two Avengers films with Marvel Studios under their production house AGBO Films, a rare co-production deal for Marvel. The Russo Brothers Pay Check
Marvel is reportedly paying the Russo Brothers $80 million to direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. “The Russo’s deal does not include back-end compensation, but it does include performance escalators that apply at ranges between $750 million and $1 billion,” the report states. The Russo Brothers collected a combined $4.85 billion for their last two directorial ventures for Marvel – Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
Robert Downey Jr.’s compensation
Robert Downey Jr. is being paid “significantly more” than the $80 million he was secured by the Russo Brothers. In fact, Marvel’s condition was to get the Russo Brothers to direct the films. The report quotes a source close to the dealmaking as saying, “They were the only people he would work with.” Robert, who won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster Oppenheimer earlier this year, also gets perks like private jet travel, dedicated security and an entire “trailer camp” in his contract.
The report also claims that Robert is the highest-paid actor in the MCU as he has charged between $500 million and $600 million for playing Iron Man aka Tony Stark in four Avengers films, three Iron Man films, Captain America: Civil War and cameos in The Incredible Hulk and Spider-Man: Homecoming. However, after the death of his character in Avengers: Endgame, Robert is now all set to return to the MCU as the main antagonist, Dr Doom.
Pre-production for both Avengers films will begin early next year. The films will go on floors in London. Doomsday will release on May 1, 2026, while Secret Wars will hit theatres on May 7, 2027.
