Here’s a Diwali concert for those who want to start their Sunday morning on a musical note. Renowned singer Sanjeev Abhyankar will perform in the city as part of Swar Diwali, a concert organized by city-based Tattva Arts. “The Hyderabad audience is familiar with me and my singing; They love me,” says Sanjeev, who has been visiting the city since ’86.
festive mood
Sanjeev says the positive mood experienced during the festival will attract music lovers. “The mood during Diwali is positive, the happy and optimistic mindset of the audience plays a big role in the success of the concert.”
While the first part of the concert will focus on classical music, the second part will feature devotional songs – a combination of Marathi abhang (by Sant Ramdas and Tukaram) and bhakti songs (by Mira Bai and Guru Nanak).

With concerts taking place at 6 am, music lovers can listen to soothing, meditative morning melodies. “The mind remains fresh in the morning and it is easier to concentrate. This time is also ideal for introspection and connecting with the divine power,” says Sanjeev. Variations of Bhairava, Raga Lalit and Bilas Khane Thodi are among the morning ragas he will present at the concert.

Sanjeev, a disciple of renowned classical singer (late) Pandit Jasraj, calls Hyderabad a city full of rasikas. “This city is unique because it has both Carnatic and Hindustani classical music lovers.” The city is also special to him because it was important to his guru Pandit Jasraj. “My Guru Pandit Jasraj Yes He had a special place in his mind for Hyderabad because his father Pandit Maniram had spent his childhood there.
