Satish Tipaturu becomes the new director of Rangayana in Mysore

Theatre director Satish Tippaturu has been appointed the new head of theatre repertory Rangayana in Mysuru.

Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi announced the appointment, along with the appointment of directors for five other theatre repertories in Karnataka.

Satish Tippaturu will take charge on August 14.

The post of director of Rangayana in Mysuru had been lying vacant since the Congress came to power in Karnataka in May 2023. Former director Addanda Kariyappa resigned in May after the BJP’s defeat in the assembly elections.

Sathish Tiptur was born on 29 January 1971 in an artistic family in Tumakuru district.

Though he studied computer science at Kalpataru Technical College, he was inclined towards theatre and trained for a year at the Abhinaya Taranga School of Arts in Bengaluru before obtaining a diploma in theatre arts at Neenasam in Heggodu.

For the last 25 years, Tippaturu has been working in the field of acting, direction and education through his organisation Bhoomi Theatre.

He was awarded a fellowship from the Drama Academy for his research paper ‘Evolutionary Basis of Theatre in Our Memoirs’. He has conducted training camps, drama festivals and seminars, besides working as a director and resource person for a year-long play writing camp for selected children.
