Fans of the iconic sitcom ‘Seinfeld’ were surprised last month when Michael Richards, famous for his role as Kramer, made a public appearance at the Hollywood premiere of Jerry Seinfeld’s Netflix movie ‘Unfrosted.’ It was one of the rare occasions Richards graced a major red carpet in nearly 18 years.

His career suffered a significant setback after a recorded outburst containing racial slurs at hecklers during a performance at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles in 2006. However, Richards is now returning to the spotlight with the imminent release of his memoir, ‘Entrances and Exits’.

Speaking to People magazine recently, he insisted he doesn’t want a comeback. He expressed regret for the racist comments he made on that fateful night in 2006, saying: “I’m not a racist. I have nothing against black people.

Reflecting on the incident, Richards explained, “My anger was everywhere and it came hard and fast.” He accepted the challenge of confronting his emotions, having to introspect over the past two decades to understand. Richards attributed his anger to deep insecurities about his worth and acceptance, which were revealed during the peak of his career on ‘Seinfeld’.

Despite the show’s immense success, Richards admitted to turning down opportunities and rejecting praise, citing feelings of inadequacy. This internal turmoil kept him away from the limelight after the 2006 incident. Although he made sporadic appearances, mainly sticking to his ‘Seinfeld’ roots, his acting opportunities became less frequent. Now, as her memoir prepares to hit the market, Richards hopes to share her personal journey of growth and liberation.

‘Entrances & Exits’, releasing on June 4, promises to give readers an insight into Richards’ struggles, regrets and the lessons he has learnt along the way. (ANI)
