Shabana Azmi’s post on “favourite actor” Naseeruddin Shah: “Why aren’t more people taking us together?”

Filmmaker Shyam Benegal celebrated his 90th birthday on Saturday. The event was star-studded and included many big names from the industry. Veteran actors Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah were also present to celebrate the achievement. Shabana Azmi shared a picture from the party on her social media. In the picture, she is seen sitting next to birthday boy Shyam Benegal. Naseeruddin Shah can be seen standing behind him, bending slightly to pose for the photo. In her caption, Shabana expressed her admiration for Naseeruddin Shah, calling him her “favorite actor” and jokingly questioned why they were not offered films together.

“With my co-actor from many films and my favorite actor Naseeruddin Shah on #ShyamBenegal’s 90th birthday. Why aren’t more people taking us together?!” Shabana Azmi wrote in her caption.

Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah have shared screen space in many memorable films. Their notable projects together include Innocent, Nishant, Gaj Gamini, ruins, ten stories, Why does Albert Pinto get angry?, silent, Market, Pestonji, across, Passion, Touch, Dress, we five, a moment, short, lullabyto name a few.

Shabana Azmi was last seen in the film 2023 ghoomarHeadlined by Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher. The veteran actress is now preparing for her next project. For her role in the Raj Santoshi-directed film, Shabana underwent a significant transformation, losing over 15 kilograms to portray a vulnerable character. “I lost more than 15 kilograms for Santoshi’s film. Since I had to play the character of this weak looking woman, I had to lose weight. I did so happily.” the actress said Times Now.

Talking about her character, Shabana Azmi said, “I play the character of a matriarch who will not let go of her ancestral home. She does not want to leave her ancestral home. This is a very sad but brave character. I have never played such a Rondhu (crying child) character in my life. It would not be an exaggeration to say that she cries a lot. I felt like Leela Chitnis and Nirupa Roy combined”

Meanwhile, Naseeruddin Shah was seen for the last time cottage, Director Aasman Bhardwaj. The project also stars Arjun Kapoor and Tabu in lead roles.
