After its premiere at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, the much-awaited Tamil film kottukkaliThe film starring Suri and Anna Ben has been selected for the official competition of the Transylvania International Film Festival.
The film’s producer Sivakarthikeyan announced the news on his social media handles on Monday.
kottukkali It marks the sophomore effort of filmmaker PS Vinothraj. Notably, Vinothraj’s critically acclaimed debut film pebbles ,Koozhangal) won the prestigious Tiger Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2021 and was selected as India’s official entry at the 94th Academy Awards.
kottukkali It is presented as a drama addressing the themes of misogyny, superstition and complex human emotions. “Two Indian families are planning the wedding of their daughter Meena and son Pandi. The trouble is: Meena loves someone else – what’s more, he’s from a lower caste. The film begins when all has been said and done, and the family’s will has left Meena cold. She is lost in a monumental silence. Her family can find only one logical explanation for this situation: Vashikaran must be performed on Meena. Once the exorcism is done, nothing can stand in the way of happiness,” the synopsis reads.
The film is produced by Sivakarthikeyan Productions in association with The Little Wave Productions. Its cinematography is by B. Sakthivel and editing is by Ganesh Shiva.
The Transylvania International Film Festival is scheduled to take place between 14 and 24 June.
