Los Angeles-based production company, Swati Shetty’s Bridge7 has acquired the sequel and television rights of the iconic 2008 Academy Award-winning film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. It marks the first major acquisition by Celador International, the UK-based production house behind the original film, for the newly formed company founded by producer Swati Shetty and CAA agent Grant Caseman.

‘Slumdog Millionaire’, directed by Danny Boyle and starring Dev Patel and Freida Pinto, became a global sensation when it was released in 2008. The film won eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Score, and enthralled audiences. It is a compelling story of resilience, love and survival set against the vibrant yet chaotic backdrop of Mumbai.


The story is based on Jamal, played by Patel, who is an actor from ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’ Presents India’s version of. Revealing his tumultuous life through poignant flashbacks. Along with Dev Patel and Freida Pinto, the film also featured standout performances from Anil Kapoor, Irrfan Khan and Mahur Mittal.


The acquisition of Bridge7 paves the way for Jamal to continue his journey. Although details have been kept under wraps, reports suggest that the sequel will explore the next chapter of Jamal’s life. It is unclear whether any of the original cast members will reprise their roles.

Paul Smith, President of Celador International, expressed his excitement about the partnership, saying:

Shetty and Kessman highlight the universal resonance of Slumdog Millionaire and call it a timeless story beyond cultural and geographical boundaries. In a joint statement they said:

With an impressive track record, Shetty brings 25 years of production experience, including Netflix’s Wedding Season. Kessman added industry expertise as a longtime CAA agent, making Bridge7 a promising player in the entertainment world.
