Long-time actor couple Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal on Sunday said, “We are now husband and wife” after a simple ceremony attended by family and close friends.
Sonakshi, 37, and Zaheer, 35, had a civil wedding at the “Heeramandi” star’s sea-facing Bandra west apartment with the blessings of their families and “both gods”.
The newlywed couple shared the news of their wedding in a joint Instagram post.
“On this day, seven years ago (23.06.2017) we saw love in its purest form in each other’s eyes and were dedicated to preserving it.
“Today that love has guided us through all the challenges and triumphs… leading to this moment… where with the blessings of both our families and both our Gods… we are now husband and wife. Here’s to love, hope and all the beautiful things with each other, from now until forever,” the couple captioned their wedding photos.
The bride and groom were dressed in ivory attire: Sonakshi wore her mother Poonam Sinha’s wedding saree and completed her look with a beautiful bun and gajra, while Zaheer wore an embroidered kurta-pyjama.
Sonakshi and Zaheer first collaborated for the music video of the song “Blockbuster”, which was released in September 2022. Months later, they co-starred in the comedy drama “Double XL”.

The two did not confirm their relationship publicly but were often spotted at events and social gatherings together. From attending each other’s birthday parties, winning awards to going scuba diving on vacations, Sonakshi and Zaheer often gave fans and followers glimpses of their life on social media.
Sonakshi’s ‘Heeramandi’ co-star Aditi Rao Hydari attended the wedding along with her fiancé, actor Siddharth and ‘Double XL’ co-star-friend Huma Qureshi.
Later, the newlyweds hosted a reception for friends and industry colleagues at one of the finest restaurants in Dadar.
For the post-wedding celebrations, Sonakshi chose a red Banarasi saree and Zaheer wore a white open jacket with a shirt and matching pants.

The reception was attended by film personalities including Salman Khan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Bela Sehgal, Gulshan Devaiah, Reema Kagti, Padmini Kolhapuri, Qureshi, Saqib Saleem, Siddharth Kak, Mudassar Aziz, Anil Kapoor, Chunky Panday, Aanand L Rai, Kajol, Saira Bano, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Richa Chadha, Ali Fazal, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Ali Abbas Zafar, Raveena Tandon, Anees Bazmee, Vidya Balan, Siddharth Roy Kapur and Tabu.
Sonakshi’s first co-star Salman Khan also produced Zaheer’s 2019 debut film “Notebook”, a romantic drama.
Boxes of sweets along with a letter of thanks from the couple were distributed to the media persons standing outside the reception venue.
Sonakshi and Zaheer wrote in a message, “Thank you for showering us with so much love, joy and kindness on the most important day of our lives! Your support and wishes mean so much to us.” Though there has been no official confirmation from the couple, rumours of their wedding started doing the rounds on social media earlier this month.
Sonakshi was last seen in the Netflix series “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar”, in which she played the double role of Rehana and Faridan, while Zaheer made a special appearance in the action film “Ruslaan”.
The wedding festivities began with the bride and groom’s family get-together on Thursday, followed by the mehendi ceremony the next day.
The Sinha family on Saturday evening organised a puja ceremony at their Juhu residence Ramayan, which was decked up with lights.
There were reports that Sonakshi’s father, veteran star and TMC MP Shatrughan Sinha, was unhappy that his daughter had not informed the family about the wedding. The rumours were put to rest earlier this week when Shatrughan Sinha was all smiles while posing with the groom and his family.
Zaheer is the son of the city’s famous jeweller Iqbal Ratansi. His sister Sanam Ratansi is a celebrity stylist and costume designer.
