‘Mother guilt is very real’
Sophie says she was shooting her upcoming TV series Joan when articles started appearing citing sources and claiming she was not a good parent. She says her children being in America while all this was happening gave her ‘mom guilt’ but she tried to overcome it. “I mean, those were the worst days of my life,” she says. I remember I was on the set, I was contracted to be on the set for the next two weeks, so I couldn’t go. My children were in America and I couldn’t meet them because I had to finish Joan. And all these articles started coming out… It hurt because as a mom I really torture myself completely with every step I take – mom guilt is so real! I just kept telling myself, ‘None of this is true. You are a good mother and have never been a partygoer.”
‘Thanks to Gen Z’
Sophie says that despite what she went through, she is grateful that she had to do it now instead of 10 years ago, when she would have been judged harshly. Talking about how a photo of her at Joan’s wrap party was used as evidence of her partying ways, she added, “I mean, it’s unimaginable about the number of people who Who will just talk nonsense and present it based on a picture. A picture can tell a thousand words, but that’s not my story. It felt like I was watching a movie of my life that I didn’t write, produce, or star in. This was shocking. I am still in shock. If something like this had happened to me 10 years ago, I don’t think I would have gotten as much support. I feel very fortunate to be alive in a time when people are so open-minded. Thanks to Gen Z.
