How do you make music that stands the test of time? In the age of social media hits and fleeting trends, music producer Tanishk Bagchi is aiming to answer this very question.
His latest work, the title track maze 3 Is making some noise with his versatile collaborations and styles. He says, “For this song, I am collaborating with Diljit Dosanjh and Pitbull and when I presented the idea, everyone agreed that it would be a perfect fit.” Based on the original title track of maze (2007), features the sound of amapiano, a South African music genre that blends deep house, jazz and lounge music with a signature log drum beat.
This is not the first time that Tanishq has ventured into the music of the African subcontinent. Earlier he had used Afro beats in ‘Nach Meri Rani’, which was sung by Guru Randhawa and Nikhita Gandhi. “I decided to use Afro beats in that song specifically because Nora will be in it. The beats are perfect for the kind of dance moves she brings and people loved it.”

The opening tune of the song is nostalgic and reminds listeners of the original song. “It’s easy to create a new song from scratch, but it takes time to reimagine an existing song. You have to keep the essence while adding something new,” he explains. “Inter-cultural experiments always excite me as I introduce new musical worlds to Indian audiences. “I have more projects in the works that I’m excited about.”
Talking about how technology has influenced his process, he says that the development of technology cannot hinder the creative process, but only aid it. “I have often used AI during my production, but I am careful about doing it ethically. AI can be used as a research and reference tool, but when it comes to production, it’s important to involve the artists and let them do their work.
Tanishq’s formula for making good music is clear. Keep learning, take breaks to avoid burnout, and explore beyond the familiar. “I think the more you travel and open yourself up to new cultures and traditions, the more you learn and experiment with your art.”
