LOS ANGELES – Shooting on Matt Reeves’ upcoming “Batman” film is expected to begin next year, the film’s co-writer Mattson Tomlin has confirmed.
The much-anticipated Warner Bros film, which reportedly faced production delays, is a sequel to 2022’s “The Batman”, which starred Robert Pattinson as the superhero alongside Zoe Kravitz, Colin Farrell and Jeffrey Wright in lead roles.
Tomlin co-wrote the screenplay for “The Batman Part II” with Reeves, and the writer said “the bar couldn’t be higher.”
“It’s going to be shot next year. We’re preparing, and I would say the standard couldn’t be higher. It’s a sequel to the first one. But there’s no one like Matt. I’ve been working so closely with him for the last five years that I’ve tried to learn as much as I can from him.
“I’m so grateful for the time I got to spend with him, because he’s a true artist working in a world where sometimes art doesn’t thrive, and he’s trying to create something that really matters. So just to be on that journey and be a part of that process, it’s pretty incredible, pretty overwhelming. I’m excited for the movie,” he told entertainment news outlet Screen Rant.
Warner Bros. officially gave the green light to a sequel to “The Batman” at a CinemaCon presentation in 2022, a month after its theatrical release.
In “The Batman,” Pattinson played a crusader who spends two years fighting crime in Gotham City, exposing corruption and pursuing the Riddler, a serial killer who targets Gotham’s elite.
It stars Kravitz as Selina Kyle / Catwoman, Wright as James Gordon, Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot / Penguin, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.
The film grossed over US$750 million at the global box office.
