Shelley Duvall, the fearless, Texas-born movie star whose wide-eyed, beguiling presence was a staple in Robert Altman’s films and who co-starred in Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining,” has died. She was 75.
Ms. Duvall died in her sleep Thursday at her home in Blanco, Texas, her longtime companion, Dan Gilroy, said. Her friend and publicist, Gary Springer, said the cause of her death was complications from diabetes.
“My sweet, lovely, wonderful life, partner and friend left us last night,” Mr Gilroy said in a statement. “Having suffered terribly for some time, she is now free. Fly away beautiful Shelley.”
Ms. Duvall was attending junior college in Texas when members of Altman’s staff, preparing to film “Brewster McCloud,” met her at a party in Houston in 1970. She became Altman’s protégé.
