Timothy fails in his own look-alike contest

Surrounded by bodyguards, Timothy briefly posed for photographs with his look-alike. High-cheeked, curly-haired lookalikes were dressed like the actor’s characters in the Wonka and Dune films. In one clip, Timothy was seen arriving at a venue smiling. He wore a blue sweater, pants and a hat. Timothy also sported a moustache.

Fine imposed on organizers

At the event in Washington Square Park, as Timothy’s look-alikes walked in, police ordered them to disperse, according to news agency AP. According to the report, police also fined the organizers $500 for an “unpermitted costume contest.”

At least one competitor was taken away in handcuffs, although police did not immediately say why. An NYPD spokesperson said charges are pending.

Organizers had posted flyers for the contest — which promised a $50 prize to the winner — around New York in recent days, prompting social media speculation and thousands of RSVPs for online invitations. “It started as a silly joke, and now it’s become an uproar,” the AP quoted Paige Nguyen, creator of YouTube personality Anthony Poe, who staged the event, as saying.

After leaving the park, the group soon found a backup location at a nearby playground, where over a dozen contestants competed for the audience’s approval from a makeshift stage. Staten Island resident Miles Mitchell, 21, who wore a purple Willy Wonka costume and threw candy from a briefcase into the crowd, was declared the winner.
