The biennial Udupa music festival is breaking up with a tradition to present a concert this year to celebrate the 10 -year celebration of Indian classical music and performance art together. Started by Giridhi Udupa, Sandhya Uduupa and Bhargwa Halmbi, this edition will perform a stellar line-up for scholars L. Subramaniam, Pandit Venkatesh Kumar, Ustad Fazal Kusi, scholar Anur Rishkrishna Bhajak, Pandit Bantram, Pandit.

Talking about the concert, Giridhi Uduupa recalls how the festival was conceptualized. “The main reason we started the foundation, to take to the places where people had no access to old age, such as homes, orphanages, cancer centers, government schools and like this. Since people of these places would not be able to participate in a concert, we decided to take music and bring them happiness.

“At the same time, we wanted to educate the audience in a simple way about our equipment and the music represented by us. Since intensive knowledge would be impossible to apply in the 90 -minute concert, a brief introduction would be sufficient instead,” he continues.

In the last 10 years, the Foundation has organized more than 153 concerts featuring 308 musicians at 93 places, which is the etiquette at the concert that serves as a funderizer. Giridhar says that the Foundation decided to invite two great people from the state – Vidwan L. Subramaniam and Pandit Venkatesh Kumar – to celebrate their 10th anniversary,

Artists from Ghatam say, “This has a special meaning for us because it will be L. Subramaniam for the first time, which I see as my guru, I will perform in Bengaluru this year after being with Padma Vibhan.”
