The theme of Devi Critis added glow to the recent concert of Alepe Venkaten, experienced singer for Sundalahari at the Indira Ranganathan Trust in Chennai.
Alapi Venkatson celebrates 60 years as a performing musician, and his impressive presentation reflected the style of his guru Ariyakuri Ramnuja Iyngar.
Alapi Venkatson filled his repetition with dislikes, a list of a surprising performance of compositions and Manodarma sections. The especially influential for today’s generation was his vocals, who were filled with complexities learned from the great Mridazist Palghat Mani Iyer.
Bu Ganeshprasad on Violin, Sherrtlai Anantakrishnan on Mridayangam and Suresh Vaidyanathan on Ghatam extended the performance. Shruti Jayaraman, a disciple of Venkatsson, granted vocal support.
The initial part of the veteran singer’s concert stood for ‘Sri Kanchi Nayake’ (Asaweari, Annaswamy Shastri), in which he laid Kriti with Swara Khand in ‘Navalav Komle’.

This was followed by ‘Lalite Maam Pahi’ (Yadukula Kamboji, Cheyur Chengalvaraya Shastri). This piece was a book emotionally binding and elegant.
Subsequently, a Virutam on Karpagambik did before ‘Hichla Tanaya’ (Anandbhairi, Sayma Shastri). The line ‘Uma Hamsagamna Tamasama Brova Dickkavavaru’ was selected for Nerwal.
The singer then launched a silent panch Sati Viutam before the composition
‘Kamakshi Nannu Browaveve’ (Varli, Sayma Shastri), which has a beautiful Swara literature. Nerwal enchanted the audience because it exposed the word ‘Saswata Rupini’ in the word, which describes the goddess.
Other compositions presented by the singer included ‘Sarsijanabh Sodri’ (Naggandhari, Dixit); ‘Kavav Kanyakumari’ And ‘Shankari Nave’ (Begada, Subbaraya Shastri).
Venkatsson next time launched the Kalyani raga Alapana in two phases, which the violin player corresponded in every way.
Kriti chose Tyaaraja’s ‘Siva Pahim’ with Nerwal in ‘Kavarojatara Tera Vasini Katyani’. The last part of the Swaraprasthara, which anchored on ‘Ga’, came with Varve, and there was a Korvai before Tani began.
Mridajist Shertalai Anantakrishnan and Ghatam Suresh were in their best in this collision suit.
