He called for a better infrastructure to increase the film industry.

New Delhi:
Actor Aamir Khan recently said that India is a “film-loving” nation, but most of its population does not have access to theaters.
Speaking on the second day of the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (Waves), the 60 -year -old actor attended a session of the Studio of the Future: Putting India on the World Studio Map.
He emphasized the need for better infrastructure to support the development of the film industry.
He said, “I believe that we need a lot of theater and different types of cinemas in India. There are districts and vast areas in the country which do not have a single theater.
He said, “I think whatever issue we have faced for decades is only about being more screen. And according to me, what we should invest is a huge potential in India, but it can only be felt when you have more screens across the country. If you don’t do, people will not watch films.”
The actor said that India lags behind countries like America and China in terms of number of cinema screens.
He said, “For the size of the country and the number of people living here, we have very few theater. I think we have about 10,000 screens. In the US, which India has a third population, they have 40,000 screens. So they are ahead of us. China has 90,000 screens.
“Even now, even in 10,000, half of them are in the south and the other half is in the rest of the country. So for a Hindi film, usually, it is about 5,000 screens,” Aamir shared.
He said that even the biggest films reach a small part of the population.
“Only two percent of the population in our country, which is recognized as a film -loving country, watches our biggest hit in theaters. Where is the rest – 98 percent – watching a film?” He asked.
He also said that there are no theater in some areas including the Konkan region.
He said, “People in those areas will hear about films, will watch the chatter online, but there is no way to see them … It is a very unfortunate situation. So the first thing we need to do is that we should have more screens,” he concluded.
On the early day of the summit, actor Shah Rukh Khan also talked about the need for more theaters in India.
“I am still confident that the day’s call is simple, small cities and cities have cheap theater so that we can show Indian films in the language for a large majority of Indians for cheap rates. Otherwise, it is getting very expensive, only in big cities,” he said.
The session also included producer Ritesh Siddhwani, Dinesh Vijan, nominated Malhotra, PVR Inox founder Ajay Bijli and American filmmaker Charles Rowan.
