After the huge success of “Gadar 2”, who ruled his popularity among fans, Hindi cinema star Sunny Deol says he is ready to adopt a new phase in his 42 -year career with some upcoming projects in streaming space.
The 1990s made a comeback to films in 2023 with a bang with the sequel to “Ghatak”, “Arjun”, and “Damini” action star of “Ghatak”, “Arjun”, and “Damini”.
The 67 -year -old actor, who is waiting for the release of his film “Jat”, said that his OTT debut would allow people to see their work on more than one medium.
“I am doing some projects for OTT, and they are not for the silver screen because the audience is niche. So, it is best to go there (OTT). People keep watching your films on different platforms.
“It is an interesting thing (medium) for actors and directors because it provides all types of variety, and you don’t need to limit yourself to something,” DOL said PTI in an interview here.
The actor said that he wanted to find out “new types of roles”.
He said, “I am already doing something (eg), I am watching it. But it all depends on whether a writer and director gives you something (different). If you try and see it, it becomes difficult,” he said.
Deol credited OTT platforms to make his films relevant to the new generation of cinema.
“People who did not watch our films in cinema (hall), but it became relevant on digital platforms, and today’s generation got to see it. I thank God and everyone for love.” He said that the bill was billed as a high-octane drama with the biggest action sequences from life, “Jat” is different from his previous films, he said.
The film, released on April 10, is directed by South filmmaker Gopichand Malineni, known for “Don Sinu”, “Bodyguard”, “Balupu” and “Veera Simha Reddy”.
“I enjoyed working on ‘Jat’ because it was a fresh thing. Whenever we do south films, they are mostly remakes. For me it is a new film for me. First, I am working with a South Director, and it has been a great experience. We all learn a lot from each other,” he said.
For Deol, he always sees the story before signing the film, not the action sequence.
“This is the story and the characters that inspire the character to do what he does, and all this makes action good. Most subjects that I have done or the characters I have portrayed, they are rescue or fighting for something or are trapped in something, in which he (hero) stands and fights. Even in real life, I believe where you want it,”
Apart from “Jat” and his upcoming OTT projects, Deol’s films are a host, including “Border 2”, which is the sequel to his prestigious 1997 film.
“I have emotions associated with every film because every film is a child. You want to do your best every time. When you do Part 2 (‘Border 2’), you can justify things, and people are happy and satisfied, but there is always pressure. However, we will ensure that we do not eliminate things.”
He is also collaborating with the famous filmmaker and his long -time friend Rajkumar Santoshi with a period drama “Lahore 1947”, and he is reported to play an important role in Nitesh Tiwari’s two part “Ramayana”.
“Jat” also stars Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh, Saimi Kher and Regina Cassandra.
Made by Mythri filmmakers and People Media Factory, the film will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages.
