On Sunil Dutt’s birth anniversary, film veteran Saira Banu dug out throwback gold. Saira Banu shared happy pictures with Sunil Dutt and Dilip Kumar. In the first picture, the trio can be seen posing for the camera. In the second click, Saira Banu can be seen serving food on Sunil Dutt’s plate. The picture is in grey scale. In another click, Dilip Kumar and Sunil Dutt can be seen bonding over a cup of tea. There is another picture in which Saira Banu and Sunil Dutt are posing together. Saira Banu started the note with the strong friendship of Dilip Kumar and Sunil Dutt. She also talked about Sunil Dutt’s generosity. Saira Banu began the note with the words, “Dilip sahab and Dutt sahab’s friendship was like a family. They were always there for each other through thick and thin. Whenever one of them faced a challenge, the other always stood by him, supporting and encouraging him. Despite their iconic status and luxurious lives, Dilip sahab and Dutt sahab never ignored the struggles of their fellow members in the film fraternity. They were always at the forefront, working together through the nights, whether it was to tackle industry-wide issues or deal with crises. Their dedication knew no bounds, even if it meant discussing solutions at three or four in the morning.”
Saira Banu then narrated an anecdote from the set. nahle pe dahlaShe wrote, “Now, here is an interesting anecdote with Dutt sahab during the making of “Nehle Pe Dehla” at his bungalow. Coincidentally, we were neighbours. My make-up room was on the third floor terrace of the bungalow, from where I could observe the activities of the “Nehle Pe Dehla” unit. I would cross the gate, go and give my shot. When the shooting would start and whenever my shot was ready, the assistant director would whistle so that I could come and give my shot.”
He said, “When Dilip sahab noticed the continuous sound of the whistle, he laughingly suggested that a bridge should be made between the two walls so that I could quickly go for the shooting instead of walking up the slope.”
In the next part of the post, Saira Banu recalled Sunil Dutt’s humorous nature and her relationship with the actor. Neighbourhood co-star. “Ever since we first met, Dutt sahab and I were offered many films together, especially down south, but unfortunately, the projects never materialised. Finally, when we were doing “Padosan”, Sunil Dutt threw up his hands in frustration and said, “Sairaji, what is this? We are doing such comedies together when we should have been acting in a film with a grand romantic theme like ‘Anthony and Cleopatra’!”
Saira Banu ended the note with a memorable quote from Sunil Dutt. “He was such a comic actor that whenever we had to do a romantic scene in “Nehle Pe Dehla”, which was a very glamorous film for me, Sunil Dutt would share the romantic shot with me but would first call his assistants and tease me, “Arre bhai! Hum log romantic scene karne waale hai, toh sabe ek platter mein acchi pyas lao. Chalo jaane ke scene ke liye rahe hain.” He was so naughty! Happy birthday, Dutt sahab!” Check out the post here:
