Universal Pictures on Wednesday unveiled a brand new trailer for the Wicked movie starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. The two-part film adaptation of Wicked the Musical is directed by Jon M. Chu, known for directing popular films such as Crazy Rich Asians and the Step Up franchise. Produced by La La Land’s March Platt, the trailer for the upcoming musical film features Grande’s Glinda and Erivo’s Elphaba singing Defying Gravity.

The teaser trailer for the film Wicked was released during Super Bowl LVIII in February. In the latest promo, fans get an extended glimpse of the world of Wicked, which is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. The film explores the characters of the beloved Wizard of Oz.
During CinemaCon last month, attendees saw extensive footage from the upcoming film. “We dreamed very, very, very big dreams for Wicked. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chu called the program, “a magical land of sights and sounds that will surprise, and performances that will lift your spirits and sometimes break your heart.”

Along with Grande and Erivo in the lead roles, the star-studded cast for Wicked includes Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Jonathan Bailey as Fioro Tigelaar, Ethan Slater as Bok, Marisa Bode as Nessarose Throop/Wicked. The Witch of the East, starring Peter Dinklage as the voice of Doctor Dillamond, Bowen Yang as Puffany, Bronwyn James as Shenshen, Keala Settle as Miss Caudle, and Adam James as Glinda’s father.

The official synopsis for the 2024 film reads, “A young woman named Elphaba, misunderstood because of her green skin, forms an unlikely but deep friendship with Glinda, a fellow student with an insatiable desire for popularity. After an encounter with the Wizard of Oz, their relationship soon reaches a crossroads as their lives begin to take very different paths.
