Movie – Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) on Prime Video and Netflix
Oh, what a wonderful day! Let’s start with visionary director George Miller’s return to the world of Mad Max, in which he stars as the baddest Furiosa in this heart-pounding, blood-soaked, thrilling film. Fury Road is one long chase scene that never ends. It’s fitting that we begin our rewatch in Australia, the homeland of Hugh Jackman. Witness me!
Duration – 120 minutes
Friday night
Film – Deadpool (2016) on Disney+ Hotstar
The first Deadpool was made next. Ryan Reynolds’ R-rated record-breaker only got the green light after test footage was leaked, but fans responded enthusiastically to the comics-accurate version of the character and the rest is history. The film is an unholy laugh riot, with Reynolds getting the chance to do what he does best, breaking the fourth wall and running his mouth.

Saturday morning
Film – The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (1966) on Prime Video
It’s OG Loner time – Clint Eastwood’s iconic man-with-no-name is seeking Civil War treasure in this epic western. See it just to see the greatest Mexican standoff ever captured on film, scored with Ennio Morricone’s tour-de-force score. There are two kinds of people in this world, my friends, those who have seen this movie, and those who miss it. Which are you?

Saturday afternoon
Movie – Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (2020) on Prime Video and Netflix
Anti-heroes and lovable rogues don’t always have to be men. DC’s Harley Quinn is the female counterpart (some would say a better version) to Deadpool, and Margot Robbie brings her to life with maniacal glee in this comically violent but proudly feminist film. Robbie also produced, mirroring her collaboration with Barbie last year. Birds of Prey is loud, bold and fun as Harley Quinn and her group of mismatched women come together to take down a crime lord.
Duration – 109 minutes
Saturday night
Movie – Thallumala (2022) on Netflix (Malayalam)
Tovino Thomas leads this ode to boys fighting each other (English title). A thrilling ride with a ridiculously complex timeline, Thallumaala is the most fun you’ll have watching men beat each other up. It’s chaos at its finest, as Tovino’s Vazim can’t let go of the past, even at the cost of his love story.

on Sunday morning
Movie – The Nice Guys (2016) on Lionsgate Play
A scruffy Australian teams up with an American actor named Ryan, but that’s enough about Deadpool and Wolverine – this is Shane Black’s 70s neo-noir mystery. Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling make an unlikely duo who try to find a missing girl and get into all sorts of mischief. Gosling’s incompetence makes a perfect match for the straight-laced Crowe, and the result is a fun action comedy.

Sunday afternoon
Movie – Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994) on Prime Video
The player meets Anri in this unauthorized remake of Michael J. Fox’s The Hard Way.
Akshay Kumar plays a cop and Saif Ali Khan is a spoilt actor who is doing research for his next role as a cop in a great masala film. Watching Akshay and Shilpa dance to Churaake Dil Mera is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Duration – 175 minutes
Sunday night
Movie – Logan (2017) on Disney+ Hotstar
When a superhero movie gets nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars, everyone pays attention. Logan was the perfect sendoff for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, but we all know that death isn’t permanent in the world of IP and superheroes. Deadpool and Wolverine don’t actually end Logan, but rather pay tribute to him.
Duration – 137 minutes
